The Better Business Bureau has issued an “F” rating on two Austin-based businesses, Clear Your Debt and Swift Rock Financial Services, due to allegations from consumers that promises of a solution to their mounting debt were unfulfilled.
Consumers complain to BBB they contact Clear Your Debt and Swift Rock Financial Services and are offered assistance in settling their debt for a monthly fee to be debited from their bank account. Consumers allege the companies fail to lower their debt as promised and, although monthly debits are made from their checking accounts, their creditors continue to call them demanding payment.
Some consumers state they have been threatened with legal action or even sued because Clear Your Debt and Swift Rock Financial Services failed to provide the promised services.
BBB has also received complaints alleging consumers filled out applications and did not know they were signing up for the debt settlement program and were billed monthly without their knowledge or consent.
BBB currently rates Clear Your Debt and Swift Rock Financial Services with an F due to, among other issues, a pattern of complaints. Clear Your Debt and Swift Rock Financial Services respond to most complaints by citing their respective contracts and related disclaimers.
On Feb. 10, 2010, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed lawsuits against Clear Your Debt and Swift Rock Financial Services. The suit alleges both companies are engaging in deceptive marketing practices, charging excessive fees and doing little or nothing to improve consumers’ financial standing.
