Ask The Get Out of Debt Experts Debt Collector

I Can’t Pay My Old Ambulance Bill.

“Dear Steve,

I have 3 year overdue ambulance bill that was sent to collections. Two months ago the debt collector called my place of employment for job verification. Then she called my home and left me a message to call her. When I contacted them I offered to pay 35.00 monthly and she refused and asked for 75.00 I agreed and have already sent 2 payments. Now she called me and told me that I have to pay $100.00/monthy which I can not afford. She says she will then turn it over to the legal dept;

She recently called me at work and requested $100.00 monthly. I told her that my hours got cut and I couldnt pay that much. She ask me to send check stubs verification and if shes satisfied then she wont turn this over to her legal dept. Does she have grounds to threaten legal action and change my monthly payment?”

If they intend to refer it for legal action they could say they would. The just can’t threaten legal action if they have no intention to do that.

Unless you have a written and verifiable mutual agreement regarding your payments they have a wide latitude on what they can do. If you reach a mutually agreeable repayment plan, ask for it in writing.

Please update me on your progress by posting updates here in the comments section of your question. I’m very interested in how this works out for you.

Sincerly,
Steve
