“Dear Steve,
I got behind because IRS was garnishing my wages and I got behind.
How can I ever get debt free if no one would give me a chance to pay my debt down and get back on track. I been at my job going on 7 years and have steady income. I just need a chance to get back on track.
Ron”

The key to dealing with debt is unless you change something in the equation you will continue on the same path.
So that means that if you got behind and now so far behind that you can’t catch up you’ll probably have to look at some form of intervention. The three most logical candidates are:
- Increase income.
- Decrease expenses.
- Intervene with the obligation itself, either legally or through negotiations.
When it comes to repaying the debt the IRS comes before everybody else. It is what it is.
I would suggest that if the IRS garnishment is ongoing or it has ended and you are buried under a mountain of debt for which there is not a realistic expectation you will be able to repay it, then I’d first send you to a local bankruptcy attorney and have you find out what bankruptcy would mean for you. Once you do that and report back in the comments below I’ll have a better idea of what the next step is.
You can click here to find a local bankruptcy attorney and if you’d like a second opinion about your situation or a personal consultation by another debt coach, please feel free to contact
