I Am Moving to the United States. What Will My Credit Rating Be? – Ahmed

“Dear Steve,

I would be immigrating to the US in future, and so far having lived in Asia and Middle East I have never defaulted on any installment.

So I was wondering how would my credit rating be when i come to USA?

I am planning to buy a home on Mortgage as well.

Ahmed”

Dear Ahmed,

The irony is that when you arrive you will have no credit history which is actually worse than having bad credit. The first thing we need to do is get some credit opened that will report to the credit reporting agencies.

You’ll find it easiest to build a meaningful credit history by following this secured card process.

I would focus on getting at least two secured cards and use them and pay them off each month. In the meantime make sure you can have cash to use towards the purchase price of the home.

Once you find the part of the country you want to live you should contact a local mortgage broker and find out what programs you may be eligible and how long that would take to become qualified to apply for a mortgage.

Please post your responses and follow-up messages to me on this in the comments section below.

Sincerly,
Steve
