Saving On The Go: YelpDeals

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of (Source and Source). Yesterday, my love for the Yelp community and website grew a little bit fonder.

Yesterday evening Yelp rolled out their latest mobile application update for iPhone and Android users to include their new feature: YelpDeals. These deals are not to be confused with Yelp’s Special Offers and Check-In Offers already promoted within the site and applications. These deals are comparable to the daily deals offered by LivingSocial and Groupon but with a small, amazing catch: they’re instantly redeemable.

The website has been offering YelpDeals for about a year now but have just taken their deals on step further in the digital world making them accessible on mobile phones. Currently only a dozen metro cities are offering YelpDeals including San Francisco, New York, Washington D.C., Boston, LA, Phoenix, Seattle, and San Diego – Source.

This is a huge step for Yelp and a giant buzz within the “Daily Deal Revolution” scene. Groupon has released their Groupon Now app which allows users to by instant deals but the available cities is even less than the dozen YelpDeals are currently offered in.

Yelp’s mobile app is currently used by over 4.5 million people per month (Source). This new feature will undoubtably bump that already staggering amount upwards, attracting new members.

An example of a YelpDeal can be seen below. Unlike Groupon and LivingSocial these deals are not on the daily level yet and come out only a few times a week in select cities.

Deals such as these can be seen as impulse buys so always think before you click “should I spend money on this?” … “will this save me money?”
