How Do I Find a Good Bankruptcy Lawyer? – Shane

“Dear Lewis,

Single income family of less than 40k. Been in debt most all of my adult life (40 yrs. old). Present credit card debt of about 43k and mortgage of about 60k. Great credit rating and current on all bills. No savings. No retirement. No future. Live week to week.

Is bankruptcy an option for us? How do I go about finding a good bankruptcy lawyer?

Dear Shane,

The best way to find a good bankruptcy attorney is to go to and use the attorney search function. NACBA is an association of consumer bankruptcy attorneys. This means we look out for debtors, we normally do not represent creditors.

But you need to consult with an attorney to make sure you qualify for chapter 7, have no assets that are not exempt from your creditors, or any other small issues.

But it looks like you easily qualify for chapter 7 bankruptcy. This would wipe out the credit card debt.

Good luck!
