American Web Loan – Consumer Complaint – 10-25-2011

Written by Consumer

Date This Problem Happened: October 25, 2011

State You Live in: California

Race/Ethnicity: White

Age Range: 51-65

Total Amount of Fee Paid: $0

Company Name: American Web Loan

Company Address: Unknown

Company Telephone Number: 310-547-8686

Website of Company: AmericanWebLoan.com

Consumer Statement:

A collector with an Indian accent called us and told us that my husband would be arrested if we did not forward our attorney information immediately and all of our legal releases…”and may God help you.” He said that we were being charged with check fraud for a payday loan that our bank rejected, and now we were legally liable for the funds. It scared the heck out of us. He said that his name was Attny Baxter Koop. His telephone number was (310) 547-8686.

Consumer Action Taken:

I know that I owe them no money. I have received no money from them, so I owe them nothing. They have no legal basis for their threats.

Note:

This is becoming a widespread scam. It is completely uncertain if the claim they make that you borrowed money from American Web Loan is real at all. These fake collectors are using the names of payday companies and attorneys, often without their knowledge. See this article for details on how this all works.

Sincerly,
Steve

  • Im also a victim of American Web Loan, but they are no longer taking the money that I work so hardt to support my family. There are complaints everywhere with almost the same histories over and over. So there is no doubt in my mind that what they say to us over the phone is planned in  way to catch us in the scam. But something needs to be done. Its not fair that this thiefs are taking advantage of the financial strugglings of people due to the bad economy . This can’t not continue, we need to protect ourselves and avoid future victims. Please anyone advise if there is a group forming to take legal action against this monster or to which government department we should write. This people are making the economy worst and it should be a goverment concern too.
    Thanks,
    Victor,

  • I have a loan with them for only 600.00, I was told the tontal amout due was 780.00. So every pay they have been taking 180.00, but my balance never went down. I called today and they told me that there is a finace charge of 180.00 on  every 100.00 that borrowed. which means I would have to pay 180.00 plus additional dollars to pay every two week to see my  balance go down. they are big scam. I will have to talk to a lawyer soon, 180.00 less mininum is  you can pay don’t go twords the balance a finace charge every 2 week and not one penny goes twords the balance a rip off. don’t get a loan from american web loan read the fine print first.

  • Keithshane, what do you think about the idea of all of us joining forces to combat this company practices?

    • I would love to join in.  I borrowed $700 from them and they have been withdrawing $210 every two weeks from my account since 2/3/12, and they are telling me that I still owe them $910!!!!  I called the Attorney General in NC and they did confirm that as long as I payback the principle amount I do not owe them anymore money.  I called my bank to request a stop payment on my account.  All of this happened today but I foresee future problems with them such as harrassing phone calls and them trying to report on my credit.  Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to see that company get theirs!!!

  • i agreed to make my interest payment of 120.. which i did happily on time and made arrangement’s on my next payment of $20.00 on my next payday 4 days prior which is their rule.. i was given a confirmation payment number on the  16 of DEC. for 20 .00 ..much to my surprise they withdrew 140.00 instead of the agreed amount of 20 which overdrew my account and cost me an extra 34.00 overdraft fee and another 15 every 3 day which will end up costing me 94.00 in overdraft fees… they scammed me totally k Shane
