Consumer Statement:
I am writing on behalf of my father in law (who does not speak much English). He, like MANY others, was upside-down in his home loan and had an ‘option arm loan’. He had a few friends that informed him that they were successul with their loan modifications and had used ‘My Home Advocate’. So, we met with Tami Steffen (who came to the house) and had them fill out stacks of papers; they paid $3000.00; she collected some tax info. etc. — and informed them they would be in contact through the ‘pipeline’ and give updates. Now, I did my research online for MHA (BEFORE we had Tami over to the house) and there was NOTHING on them or against them. So, I figured it was safe.
All started well. I was seeing the weekly updates of what the Bank of America rep was saying; what MHA was saying; and what we were saying – and all the reports we gave and signed for BOA. Also, we were getting notices in the mail from BOA informing us that we were behind and they acknowledge we were going through a loan mod. Thought all was well.
Then after a year and a half; we kept bugging MHA on why it is taking so long — and they kept informing us it was BOA (whom I know is being pretty ‘tough’ on loan mods at this time; and rejecting many — as I head the Collections Dept at a prop. mgmt. co). So, I kept with it and was always in contact with MHA through the pipeline.
Then on day in August (2011); I receive a notice on the pipeline that Farrah who was handling our case (MHA) was no longer there and we got all the info for a Carley in their office. So, she was contacting BOA and I was seeing the person’s responses, etc.
Then I get an urgent email (on my hotmail) from a Stephen@hoalm.com saying reads:

So, I continue to call the office (as well as my boyfriend; to help his parents) and no response. I write on the pipeline and no response. He called the Attorney and the Attorney informed him of his father’s options at this time (since the mortgage hasnt been paid in over a year) = BK or walk-away. So, now as we continue to contact MHA (as we were told a refund would be given of our 3K if modification wasnt approved by BOA); and my boyfriend has gone to office — no such thing.
OK…his parents got scammed. Easy to see that.
BUT…now this Attorney has been in contact with us and asked me if there was a sale date on the home. I informed him there was a NOD filed on 09.26.11 by the lender. We were told there would be no additional cost for this Attorney (by the email from Stephen at MHA) and the Attorney notified my boyfriend that he is not making money on this – he is helping the clients of MHA since they are having ‘financial difficulties’. I thought that was kind of ‘fishy’ since I dont know one Attorney that works for ‘free’ or to ‘help’ others (sorry). So, the Attorney has since emailed my boyfriend and I to keep in contact. I forwarded him an NOD copy – and I looked up his website. http://moherlaw.com/about-us
But — a website does not help the ‘average joe’ find anything on anyone. I am at a loss as to what to do now for my inlaws.
I did confirm with my good friend and saw the paperwork he signed with his lender — and MHA was able to get his loan mod set….AND he had an NOD filed on his home, as well. So, it is not a full scam, I will admit.
I, also, found this today.

So, I dont know what to do from here. I am thinking at this point that the best option is for them to just walk away. But I am hoping that this Attorney is legit.
THANK YOU for your time on reading this.
