Debt Relief. – Jackie

“Dear Steve,

I have large credit card debt don’t know where to turn for debt relief.

Dear Jackie,

Well the good news is debt relief is possible and you’ve taken the first step towards dealing with your debt. Congratulations.

But I think you’d have to agree with me that there’s quite a bit of detail missing about what your situation is. Maybe you can fill me in, in the comments below.

It would be helpful to understand the situation you are facing and the amount and type of debt that you have. You see the debt is the symptom we need to deal with that but we’ve also got to treat the root cause of the debt, otherwise the problem won’t be solved.

It’s a bit like treating the headache but not the underlying brain tumor.

So what do you think brought you to the point of realizing your debt has become a problem?

Let’s start with the basics.

I’d suggest you first read How to Get Out of Debt. The Honest and Unvarnished Truth and The Truth About The Success Rates, Failure Rates and Completion Rates of Credit Counseling, Debt Settlement, and Bankruptcy. They will give you a great overview of what we need to deal with to get you moving in the right direction.

Then use the free How to Get Out of Debt Calculator to review your options.

After that, come back here and comment about what seems to make the most sense and let’s discuss that.

Does that sound like a reasonable approach?
