I have some debts in UK (around 5K). It has been 2.5 years, Since i have moved from UK to my home country due to some family reasons. since then i never heard of anything from any of my creditors in my home country. Now i want to come back to UK again, and i want to review my UK credit status via stuatory credit report (incase i have any judgement against me) and for immigration purspose as well. Can i order a stuatory UK credit report from my home country? Does any of credit agency(experian, call credit, equifax) sell my personal information to my creditors if i order this report?Because i need to tell them my current address in my home country along with my previous UK address if i order that report. And i dont want my parents know about my UK debts. Here my intentions not to hide myself from my old debt. But at the moment i can’t face them. Please suggest me what i can do in this situation?
Thanks in advance.
I understand your concerns, however many of them are unfounded and I hope I can help you, or at least clear the air a bit, so to speak.
Having debts in the UK will alone not prevent you from returning to the UK, or obtain any type of Visa or Immigration status. These laws do change regularly, but to my knowledge which is pretty recent, debts in the UK alone, do not prevent you from returning. You can inquire with Immigration or who may be sponsoring you for a Visa to return to the UK to confirm this.
As for obtaining a copy of your UK credit report:
You may be able to order a copy of your credit history here in the UK, but you will need to be able to meet the requirements of the credit bureaus, so I would suggest you review their web sites, and the consolidated credit bureau’s web sites.
You usually need a credit or debit card in order to do this, which brings up the question of if your current address will be disclosed and known to the credit agencies.
Unfortunately probably yes. By ordering a copy of your credit history you may in essence be updating your credit file here. There’s always a catch, and by requesting a copy of your credit history in the UK, your address is needed; not just for the report, but also for a means to pay if using a credit or debit card.
Do the credit agencies report back to your creditors, no they do not. But your creditors may periodically review your credit report for updates.
While I understand your privacy concerns and intentions, it may be you just need to come back to the UK and then deal with the debts.
Can you afford to repay the debts at this time?
Will you have work if returning to the UK and be able to repay the debts at that time?
Depending on your full set of circumstances and what you are looking to do will help me in advising you further.
I hope this helps.
