Able Debt Settlement Vanished On Me. Where Did They Go? – Rebecca

“Dear Steve,

i have worked with able debt settlement, based out of irving, tx for the last 2 years. they have helped me settle 2 out of 6 accounts. now that i have paid all their ‘service fees’ i cannot seem to get a hold of them – no response to phone calls or emails.

i just filed a complaint with bbb. how do i go about pursuing a partial refund since they are in breach of the contract of helping me settle other accounts listed. how would i go about trying to settle with other companies that i still owe – do i contact the original company, or whoever bought the debt? i live in the state of PA- what is the statute of limitations here regarding debt? thanks.

Dear Rebecca,

I’m sorry to hear your debt settlement company vanished on you. Since you are in Pennsylvania did Able Debt Settlement ever tell you that your pay can’t be garnished if one of your lenders sued you?

It looks like Able Debt Settlement had a number of issues we’ve written about. See the article on Able Debt Settlement.

Able Debt Settlement previously filed a chapter 11 bankruptcy on February 1, 2011. As an unsecured creditor you should have been notified of the filing.

According to current court documents the bankruptcy is ongoing. Kind of ironic that the debt settlement company filed for bankruptcy when they probably talked you out of bankruptcy when you signed up for their service.

It appears that the attorneys for Able Debt Settlement, at least regarding the bankruptcy, are: – Source

It would probably be a good idea to contact them for information on who is supposed to be servicing your account at this point.

If you are stilling being hounded by your creditors, you can locate a performance based debt settlement company that would not charge you an advance fee or click here to find a local bankruptcy attorney.

  • thank you steve for your response! i will follow up with the info you gave me to contact able. and no, able did not tell me that they cannot garnish wages in PA. and yes, it is ironic that able filed for bankruptcy, something that they did talk me out of, or should i say hightly encouraged me in not doing.
