I’m Losing Sleep Over Debt Collector Threats. – David

“Dear Steve,

On April 10,2013 My wife got a call from someone with a forgin accent who told her that they have criminal papers with my name on them breach of contract/fraud for a payday loan that I supposed to have taken out sometime in 2008, I have not got any paper work on this I don’t know where the office is at they have called me 6 times on April 11,2013 saying that if I don/t give them $755.00 they will find my address and send the court papers. They said I signed a contract with a back and they never got any money.

I am losing sleep over this wondering if they are going to actually send out the papers I think this is a big scam and they are trying to get money using scaring me or what, they said that they have a address for me ,my question to you is what should I do , I don’t want to send money to someone I have to talk to over the phone, this has caused me problems at home.

don't give up

Dear David,

Frankly, it sounds like the same old bogus fake debt collector scam. See Frightening Calls From Fake Debt Collectors Threaten People With Jail for Payday Loans. It’s a Scam.

Let’s eliminate the fear out of this situation and give you back some power here. I want you to read How to Dispute and Ask a Debt Collector to Validate a Debt and follow all the steps in the guide.

Typically what happens is that when the consumer asks the fake debt collector for their mailing address so they can send a certified letter the debt collector makes all sorts of excuses, says there is not enough time, or changes the conversation.

My bet is you are being emotionally played to scam money out of you by someone that is most likely not the legitimate holder of the old debt.
