Who knows, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) might have started this a while ago but in doing a bit of research for another article I noticed they are now specifically accepting complaints from consumers regarding credit repair and debt reduction services.
It seems their category of “Debt Settlement” would also apply to any intervention between a consumer and creditor since the online definition of that category is “Service for reducing your debt balance.”
Consumers wishing to file complaints with the CFPB for credit repair and debt related services can do so here.
These categories have not risen to the level of having their own major category yet and sit under the “other financial services” section of the complaint database. I was unable to find any data yet reported in this category so it might be very new.
