I feel sick to my stomach and stupid for supplying any information at all to the company.
Consumer Action Taken:
I received a notice in the mail from a company called Advantage Student Loan Consolidation re: reducing my student loans and forgiveness of my loans. I contacted them and spoke to a person named Cory Perry. We made an appointment to speak at a later time. When I finally spoke to him, he asked me for my social security number. At first I was hesitant to give it, but upon looking up the company’s website, I thought it was legit. But then he asked me for my mother’s maiden name, which just didn’t sit well with me. He said he needed the info to look up in the system what kinds of loans I had, but it just started to seem suspicious so I declined to provide more info and ended the call. Now I’m thankful that I did, seeing as this Cory Perry person scammed someone else.
