How Can Reven Media be Student Loan Experts?

Update and Response from Reven Media

I’d like to offer a hat tip and pat on the back to Reven Media for responding to the story below. It is truly uncommon for a company to be open, transparent, and offer a public comment.

Reven Media Response to the Story

We sincerely appreciate your concerns to consumers and welcome any constructive criticism.

Like you, we want to see this space succeed and be successful for the parties participating legitimately, but more importantly, see people get the help they need without being misled.

We read through your post & there were a couple items it looked like you felt we could be improving on- and we want to be the first to admit, there were definitely some things that could have been executed better on our end.

Here is our responses to those items:

The Email In Question:

We want to be clear, the email was not approved or endorsed by Reven Media and never would have been. The email in question is currently being investigated by our team and once we determine the source, we hope to get back with you on that subject. We strive to be above board in everything we do, and learning about this was very disappointing to say the least. In the end, we think we can turn this into a positive to help us really sharpen our pencils with who we work with, and what we approve being sent to our online properties from outside traffic sources. If you look at the page the email went to, you will notice a complete night & day change in ad copy. For example, that website page never uses the word “forgiveness” in it. And it provides pertinent information to the consumer like “All decisions are subject to DEO approval”, “This is a privately owned site, and is not affiliated or endorsed by any Federal agencies”, “Fees may be free directly through the DOE, there is a fee to enroll”, and so on. The point here is, we are huge advocates of being non-deceptive in anything we offer.

Mailing Address & Name Disclosure:

The reason why you see a different mailing address on our website is because we utilize segregated addresses specifically for opt outs. It helps us in not losing any opt-out requests in our standard mail we receive daily that consists of all kinds of junk email that gets thrown out. The mailbox is nearby, and we weekly check on the box for mail. We’re sure people would rather us err on the side of caution when dealing with this matter. We just don’t want to miss anyone’s mail request for opt-out. This is important to us.

In addition, we have had a massive influx of “copy cats” in the space finding out what types of website pages we are using, and then going in and copying down our content. There are actual sites online right now, that are not owned or endorsed by Reven Media, but have our phone numbers and company name in the privacy policies. This poses a huge risk for us. What if these guys are advertising deceptively? Who gets blamed? The solution recommended was to take our company name out of the actual content and replace it with the url, while still providing a legitimate mailing address, and form of contact which does exist on the pages. This protects us but still gives a subscriber an option to reach us.

And finally, to answer your question in the subject line: How Can Reven Media be Student Loan Experts? We feel that because of the knowledge learned from our partners, the research we have had to do in order to know just what it is we are marketing, plus the training and knowledge received through our membership with the Association For Student Loan Relief, we are confident in having expertise in the space.

We hope this makes sense to anyone reading and we sincerely thank Mr. Rhode for bringing this to our attention. We will strive to continually better our processes, and succeed in the space in the future.
