I Was Turned Away By a Credit Counseling Company Because I Didn’t Have Enough Debt. – April

“Dear Steve,

Making up for loss of a job for 8 months. Behind on some bills, which late fees are keeping me behind. Need a new car. Have a student loan that did not get deferred with the others and is now in garnishment. Letters were missed while moving to another state and i was unaware of the loans default. A couple of medical bills.

Since I do not have a high $ amount in credit card debit I have been turned away from debit consolidation companies. I have just been working to catch up. I didn’t want to file bankruptcy. It now looks like that is my only resolve to clear my debit and start over. Is this correct?

Dear April,

Groups that turn people away or who set a minimum of amount of debt to assist you with are typically only interested in making money from you. Sad, but true.

How much debt do you have and how many creditors? It would be helpful if you could give me a breakdown by creditor.
