Have not paid any credit card bills or student loan payments in about a year. I used to always be on time and then medical, dental, and other expenses started to occur. It got out of control and now I am almost losing my mind, because I feel like there is no way to fix my money issues. I wanna fix it, but how can I do it without my entire paychecks being gone. A few places are now trying to garnish my checks.
What can I do I am so lost, confused, and scared at this point? Please help me!!!
I can guide you in the right direction. No worries. While I don’t have a magic wand, together we can get you on firm footing. This is the moment that I need for you to turn and face your issues head on to gain some control back over your life.
I suggest that you initiate a two pronged approach. If your student loans are government backed then you need to look into the IBR, Income Based Repayment program and check about getting your payments lowered.
As far as the other debt goes, bankruptcy is probably the right answer for a number of reasons. The most important reason is that entering the bankruptcy process will stop the wage garnishment and address the debt that is legally binding on your creditors and gives you some rights and protection.
I implore you to find a local bankruptcy attorney and go meet with them before you rush to a knee-jerk judgment and say bankruptcy is not for you. Get the facts before you rush to an emotional decision.
If you do these two things right now, then within the next couple of weeks you will not be scared, stressed, worried or frightened.
