I was in a financial bind and needed immediate help. I went online and signed up with several payday loans hoping that I could pay them once I took care of everything else. Well to make a long story short I fell deeper into the hole.
I then had pressing bills due and these loans so I went to Destination Debt Solutions and finished the program which took a year. They claimed all the loans were paid back and/or settled. I know I paid over thousands of dollars to clear them up maybe even close to two thousand.
Well years later I am receiving debt collection calls from a loan company who stated I never paid back the money. I tried to find Destination Debt Solutions corresponding emails from back then but was unable to find them. I even tried calling but the number is no longer in service. I was even unable to pull up the account they had setup for me to show the payments and where they went to.
Now I am upset because they reassured me that they handled everything as long as I paid the agreed amount. How or where can I go now to solve this is with no proof if I cannot get in contact with Destination Debt Solutions?
It sounds like a classic problem. A settlement is reached and a future collector says they have no record of it and you still owe the money.
I advise people to keep proof of their settlements with their other important papers and not to lose them for just this very reason.
It does appear that Destination Debt Solutions is no longer in business. So unfortunately, unless you can provide the collector with proof that a settlement was reached and paid, this is going to be an up hill battle for you.
The reality is there is no requirement for a debt relief company to provide you with historical information and ultimately it is up to the individual consumer to maintain proof of the deals with the creditors.
With that proof in hand this matter could be dispatched quickly. Without that proof the odds are you are going to have to settle or pay this debt again.
It might not be a fair situation but it is what it is.
