I Was Sued for a Debt That Then Vanished

Question:

Dear Steve,

I was sued by debt collection agency for 8k that they supposedly owned from a bank, a hospital and another medical bill. I requested a trial and the attorney was a no show and I got a dismissed with prejudice.

How will or can this affect my credit report? Do I dispute the collections that were listed or send in my judgment to each of the agencies?? Can my credit score increase because I won?? What do I need to do now??

Heather

Answer:

Dear Heather,

Your credit report should reflect the fact you were sued and it was dismissed. Any listing for any accounts included in that suit should show a $0 balance.

I’m less concerned about the past issue which you dealt with wonderfully but more about how you are rebuilding your credit moving forward. Please read How to Easily Rebuild Your Credit and Have Good Credit Again.
