Nationwide credit took over my AmEx, also and contracted with me to settle the debt in a certain number of onerous payments. I made all the payments on time (early, actually) with money orders sent certified, return receipt, so that, even though they claim they never received the final payment, I have proof that they did. They are thieves and liars.

so it this a legit company?? i have an american express account that went to them supposedly . and now they want me giving my bank infor over the phone……hell no.

Nationwide regularly collects unpaid American Express accounts.

If you are able to pull money together to settle, the offers are often better with a contingency collector like this, than collection attorneys that could eventually have your account in their office later on.

Do you know how much I would owe the IRS next year if I have a settlement with half of what I owe? Say I owe 4,000 and they let me settle for 2,000 they would send me a 1099 c form. I know I wouldn’t be out of the clear yet and I’m worried either I will be paying a lot when tax season comes or that they will sell the rest of my debt to another junk buyer

American Express does not sell unpaid credit card debt.

I cannot know your tax situation, but it is definitely something to understand now, and budget for if you do end up owing tax on forgiven debt.
