  1. I feel they tried to scam me too. Whenever I get a credit card I will set it up for auto-pay and this is what I did for my Koh’s Card. The first time we used it my auto-pay went thru so the due amount was taken care off. Then a few months later in 2018, I was unaware that a $1 transaction occurred on my card. Since I wasn’t aware it raked up late fees and by the time I found out I owe them more than $100. So I called them to have the late charges reversed as well as the $1 transaction. I also requested them to cancel the card but they convinced me to keep it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt so I decided to keep the card and I enabled back the auto-pay.

Then last September 2021, my wife and daughter made a $73.25 purchase at Kohl’s and since I know that it’s on auto-pay I didn’t check my account. I usually receive a lot of spam emails from Kohl’s so I never notice the statement from Kohl’s. But on January 2022 I noticed the email with the statement that I owe them $231. I checked my account and found late fee charges, the first one is $27 and the rest are at $40 a month. I was contemplating to just pay the amount and then cancel the card to avoid the hassle but I decided to give them a call to try to get all or some of the late fees reversed.

A gentleman answered my call and I explained to him the situation and the auto-pay being disabled and being removed from the “manage payment” option. I asked him if he can reverse the late charges. He complied but only up to $171 and he told me if I pay now he will reverse the other late fees. I told him no, I only purchased $73.25 merchandise so why should I pay $171? He answered me that that’s all he can do and besides it was an overlook on their part and mine. I told him your system disabled my auto-pay without notifying me. (I searched my email so I’m sure there was no notification.) Since he said that’s all he can do, I asked him then who can reverse all the late fees. He then ask me to hold. Waited for more than 5 minutes.

When he returned he told me that now I only need to pay $84 from $231. Does it supposed to make me happy? He said if I pay it now, he will reverse the rest of the late fees. I was contemplating whether to take it or contest it. I thought this money is from God so I should try to take it back and prayed. So I told him no, I’ll only pay the $73.25 because that’s what I purchased. Then he said if I only pay $73.25 then he will not remove any late fees and I will still owe them the remaining balance. I told him again, I’ll pay $73.25 because that’s the amount we purchased and if my credit score is ruined because of this I will sue them. He then ask me to wait and put me on hold.

When he came back he said ok you only need to pay $73.25, we will reverse all late fees. I just checked and they have reversed all the late fees, praise God!

My call lasted for 53 minutes, that’s why sometimes customers do not want to waste their time calling but would rather pay to avoid the hassle. I thank God that I had the time to challenge this scam business method.

  2. Kohls credit card is a SCAM!!! There is no other way to put it. My mom paid off everything yet she receives 7 months later that she owes $371 on something she never bought including interest charges over the past 7 months. She never went to that store after paying off everything. They are robbers!! F*ck this Company! F*ck Kohls! F*uck their system. F*ck their owners …and their wives too!!

  3. Kohl’s credit cards are a SCAM. They beg you to use them when you’re in the store, then … they call saying you owe money because it’s past due and they tack on huge fees. They say they sent you a statement .. they DID NOT. When they called me for a less than $50 charge, plus a HUGE late fee I paid it immediately over the phone. The charge showed up on my credit report anyway and cost me $18,000 when I went to buy a house. I called to discuss the credit report with Kohl’s and was on the phone literally 3 hours trying to talk to someone that had authority to remedy the situation … all I ever got was a “call center” person that was of NO help. My son just ran credit reports on the people interested in renting one of his properties. He said that 8 out of 10 had Kohl’s issues. I have not and will not go back to shop at Kohl’s!! KOHL’S IS A COMPANY THAT SCAM’S THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!!!

    Dear Angela,

I have copied and posted below the review I wrote today about Kohl’s. Please contact me if you think my mother can be a party to this class action suit against Kohl’s.

Thank you; I hope that you will pursue this and bring justice to thousands of victimized customers. My mother did not deserve to be harrassed in this manner.

    Sincerely,

Beware of these white collar crooks!
“My mother purchased two items at Kohl’s for $30.36. Usually, she pays cash, but that day she did not have enough cash and paid with the store credit card. When she received the bill, she sent the payment out by cheque. However, a month later she received another bill from Kohl’s saying that she owed $46.36 due to late charges. She went to the Kohl’s store in Bellingham, WA to pay her outstanding charges in person on September 30, 2019. Her bank statement showed that the cheque she originally sent had already been cashed in August. They told her she still owed $17.50 for late charges, so she paid it. However, throughout October and November, she has been receiving emails and calls claiming she still owes them money. We called today and they said she ‘owed’ them $119, even though they acknowledged receipt of the cheque for $30.36 and the payment for $17.50. When I inquired why her account was not cleared after she was told to pay $17.50, the agent replied “I don’t know; I just work in collections.” However, they said that she signed the original credit card agreement so she was obligated to pay the $119.
Lessons learned? #1) Never, ever shop at Kohl’s. #2) Never, ever sign up for any department store credit card. Never. Ever. You’d be better off selling your soul to the devil first!”

  5. it is ashame that kohls will give a store credit card to anyone. found out that my daughter applied for a kohls card and got it. she is 24 and never had a job in her life. she is a addict on drugs and took the card and blew it on crap she didn’t need. so I (her dad) called kohls credit card department to let them know about their mistake, and they told me that it does not matter to them if she got the card with false information that she put on the application. they would not cancel the card after knowing what I had told them. they dismissed me and said it will go against her credit. so sad for the way of these companies that don’t care how they conduct business.

  6. Well I am in the same situation as another commenter. I took out the Kohls card to save 10 percent on my purchase. I paid the balance in full, I thought. I live in South America and didn’t think anymore about the 100 dollar purchase I had made back in April. So I get a call from my nephew saying he is getting urgent mail from Kohls about an overdue payment. I call and they tell me I owe 6 months late fees on an additional 20 dollar purchase I made that didn’t make the original billing statement. To my shock, I owed 170 dollars on a 20 dollar credit card purchase. It was certainly my fault for overlooking the additional 20 dollar purchase but 25 a month late fees an a 20 dollar debt is crazy.I paid the full amount today and have learned a valuable lesson. Saving 10 dollars ended up costing me 160 dollars. I can only hope others will be wiser that I was to this credit BARGAIN.

  7. I am investigating into a possible class action lawsuit against Kohl’s for charging credit card customers for plans they did not sign up for, such as “account ease.” I welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your experience and there is no financial obligation to you. Thank you for your consideration.

  8. I received my bill this month for 22.03 plus 15.00 charge, this distrubeds me the payment was 1 day late because I had been out of town for a month and it was due that day I returned so I went to the store and payed.  I have never been late in the years I have had your card and feel this was not justified.  The bill in mention was only 17.11, I understand late is late but feel as though I have been a loyal customer and this should stand for something.  Judy Sinkhorn

  9. Kohls credit is a scam. I was charged late charges of 25.00 and was supposed to be credited back because of kohls mistake…instead the credit was not credited back and it went on my credit as negative. The good thing is, I recorded every phone call to customer care and kohls corporate office VP. And I have 2 confirmation numbers so I am filing a complaint with BBB and fair credit reporting agency. Kohls customers beware check your account online frequently you will find out exactly what I’m talking about.
