Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I was a patient at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to receive XXXX in my XXXX. I paid the amount due at the time of the visit, which was something like {$100.00} – {$150.00}. The remainder of the bill was sent to my insurance company. Unbeknownst to me at the time of needing XXXX in my XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX was not in network for my insurance company, and as a result I ended up owing additional funds to the service provider. They sent me a bill, which — as happens from time-to-time — fell through the cracks as I was traveling a lot for my job during that period. A few months later, the bill was sent to AMCOL Systems for collection. This is very atypical for me ; I have worked very hard for the better part of my adult life to establish good credit. I am very protective of my credit score, and it was never my intention to willfuly ignore the debt. However, my job continued to be extremely demanding at that time and required that I move my family to a new city. On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted AMCOL to pay the debt. Rather than negotiating a discounted payoff, I asked them if they would remove the collection from my credit report if I paid the debt in full. They did tell me that it was unlikely they would have the debt removed from my credit, but that a ” paid in full ” status would be significantly better for my credit than ” paid as agreed. ” I did pay them in full, but my credit has not improved as they said it would. I ‘ve since called them multiple times and talked with multiple people asking them to please stop reporting my paid in full debt to the bureaus, but they simply will not do it. I know they absolutely have the ability to have the bureaus remove the collection from my report, but they simply choose not to because of their company policy – a policy that clearly is not in the best interest of American consumers. Not only is their policy unfair and unjust, but they continue to report to the bureaus every 2 weeks that my debt was paid in full, which keeps it at the top of my credit report and will continue to make it appear as a young debt. At this point it just feels spiteful.
