Ways To Eat Healthy AND Save Money

Obviously couponing will save you money! One thing to look out for with coupons though is unhealthy food. There are a lot, and I mean, A LOT of coupons for junk food. Stay away! “Just Say No!” That being said you can still use the art of couponing to save on healthier items on your shopping list! For example, if you have a coupon off of a box of pasta see if you can use it on a wheat pasta option if available!

Since coupons are never released for fresh fruits and veggies always look for sales in stores’ circulars! Another option would be to visit your local farmers’ market. I’d heard that if you go later on in the day, roughly an hour or so before closing, some stands will discount their produce to get rid of it rather than have it go bad. Also, most farmers who specialize in particular produce will more often than not lower their prices on their produce. This is usually because since they offer only one type of produce and have it in bulk they do not have to mark it up. If a farmer only sells leafy veggies compare their prices to another farmer’s stand who may sell leafy veg and fruit.

Another great tip is to grow your own veggies! My aunt recently started a garden in her yard called “Square Foot Gardening“. When you make a “Square Foot Garden” you break up your garden into, you guessed it, square foot sections. Within each section you grow one thing and in another section something else. Once the season is over for your planted square section you can easily replace it with something else in season. It seems like such an easy to maintain and novel garden. Not to mention, it reminds me of Farmville!! If only my phone would alert me when it’s ready to harvest those planted veggies!

You know what I’m going to ask next, don’t you? Yep. Do you have any tips for saving money and eating healthy?? If so, leave them in the comments below!
