Consumer Statement:
We received a special offer from First National Bank of Omaha to get a “Visa BacksBack Credit Card.” It stated in big bold letters that you can earn up to 5% on all qualifying purchases.
Well, I called their toll free number because it didn’t go into any detail about qualifying purchases. The representative said that I would get 5% on all my purchases. I couldn’t believe it so I asked again. They assured me that I would get 5% on all my purchases. So I applied for the card and got accepted.
A few weeks later a card came but it was not the “Bucks Back Card”. When I called they said that they needed me to fax the original offer letter to them. I did. After about two weeks of them researching the matter they sent me the “Bucks Back Card”. They called me to tell me that it was on the way. Again, I asked if I was going to get 5% back on all my purchases. They said “yes”. Thinking I was getting 5% back on all my purchases, Buck Back was the only card my husband and I used.
We racked up a bill of over $5,000. When I got my statement it did not show the 5% I thought I was getting. I received about $25 in rewards instead of the $250 I was expecting. When I called to ask the representative explained to me that I was only going to get 1% for the first $10,000. Then I would get 5% for the next $3,000.
Then it would go back to the 1%. Needless to say, I was told that I should have read the fine print when my welcome packet came. I feel like a was mislead and abused and ripped off.
Consumer Action Taken:
When I called they said that they could go back and listen to ;my recorded messages about the representatives stating that I would get 5% on all purchases and then they would be sure to train their employees better to make sure their employees were more knowledgeable. They would give me an extra $25 credit. I would have made $250 Again I felt this was not right.
