I Had to Return to India But Creditors are Chasing Me. – Amith

“Hi Jon,

I have three credit cards and a car loan. 2 with RAK Bank and 1 with FGB. I lost my job in May 2014 and in June had to return to my home country India. I have got another offer but RAK Bank confirmed to be there is a case on me and FGB also. My car has been re-pocessed by the bank and they have recovered that money.

I am expected to get some money by Feb next year, If I contact the bank and repay my credit card debts will I be able to go back to UAE again and start over or am I still in trouble?

Amith”

Amith,

Is the money you are expecting to receive going to be enough to repay all that you owe?

If the money you receive is not enough to fully repay the loans, you could attempt to settle the accounts, however, I have not heard of much success in people doing this.

If you cannot fully pay the accounts, or settle them, then that money may be better spent elsewhere, or saved.

If you do pay all the accounts in full, then yes, technically you should be able to return without any problems. However, you would want to confirm any warrants or legal proceedings against you have been dropped, and try to get proof of this.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Jon
