I responded to a letter I received in the mail to help me get out of debt. I spoke with a compliance officer named Jeff. Jeff informed me that Clearing Solutions was a federally regulated program. He told me that my payments would be put into an escrow fund until a percentage was reached. He explained that some of the payment would go to the creditors and these payments would also go to cover credit repairs. After several minutes of questions and answers about the program, Jeff had someone else come on the phone and discuss matters with me. I was so under the impression that this was a debt consolidation program and that I would be helped to pay off my credit cards. Supposedly, this company is a validation company and charged me a large monthly sum for their services.
Consumer Action Taken:
I contacted the company and asked for a refund because after sixteen months, I did not feel like I was getting any closer to settling my debts with the credit card companies. One company even sent us a 1099 in which we paid taxes. I was informed that as stated in my contract, this company wasn’t settling any debt for me. They said that they sent documents on my half to validate my charges. I have made numerous phone attempts and sent emails asking for my refund because I strongly felt I was mislead and misrepresented. Not only did this company not help me get out of debt, they caused more harm to my credit because they informed me not to pay on my cards. Supposedly, this was to get the credit card companies to report me to third parties in order to make it easier to validate my claims. I was, and still am, so confused.
