Consumer Complaint: I struggled to make monthly payments on several student loans totaling just over 90,000 since I had left school before graduation I was unable to consolidate my loans. Some of which had interest rates over 10 %. After falling behind on my loans I recieved multiple daily harassing phone calls and letters. Several members of my extended family also received calls where reps claimed they had been listed as contacts on my loans ( they were not ) It was offered to put me on a payment plan. In return for 6 months of payments my account would be brought current. I set up an automatic deduction from my bank account and completed those 6 months of payments. At the end my account was not brought current. When I questioned this I was told the funds were not applied to one of my loans and therefore they were all ineligible to be brought current. This issue was never resolved and I defaulted on my loans after almost 40k of interest was added to them over 10 years.
