Consumer Complaint: My husband & I rented an apartment at XXXX ‘s XXXX ( XXXX XXXX ) since XXXX. We were good tenants and regularly had maintenance repair things, kept the place nice, etc. In XX/XX/XXXX, my husband passed away suddenly from XXXX XXXX unexpectedly. I am permanently XXXX. I went into the office and spoke to XXXX XXXX a few times explaining I couldn’t afford the rent anymore and would probably have to leave. I told her I had to see when everything settled. She was fine with that and told me that they needed 60-90 days notice if i left and said they would work with me due to the situation.
In XXXX I sent an email stating I could no longer afford financially to stay. I also went back to speak with XXXX telling her my husbands employer had dropped me and my children from insurance and now i had to pay for all my medical, prescriptions, etc. So i had no way of affording the rent and that I would be leaving by the end of XXXX. As I had informed the office by the end of XXXX, I packed up, spent the weekend cleaning, painting with help and shampooing the carpets. Now since XXXX we had paid a deposit for a cat plus {$25.00} a month pet fee. All the walls were repainted with 2 coats of white paint. there was normal wear and tear in the apartment after 7 years, the carpet had never been replaced but regularly shampooed by me. There was a spot in the bedroom they claimed was from my cat, but it was actually from the maintenance man XXXX who when our air conditioner leaked, he drilled a hole in the unit causing the stain. counters get used, etc.
But in the end of XXXX i get a note from XXXX XXXX stating they are keeping my security deposit, i owe damages, plus 2 months rent. I tell them I don’t owe as i am XXXX and my income ( my spouse ) has died i can break the lease. they sent me to XXXX who tells me they are sending me right to the credit bureau and has done so making my credit go down and i don’t feel this is right. I would like them to take this off my credit report immediately and i would like the so called debt eliminated and actually would like my security deposit refunded.
