Consumer Complaint: I took out an education loan for my son while he was attending the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. The loan went into default. I was sent an email from the U.S. Department of Education on XX/XX/XXXX regarding my XXXX XXXX XXXX ” The U.S. Department of Education recently recalled your defaulted student loan account from XXXX XXXX XXXX

You can now make payment arrangements without paying additional collection costs, but you must call us before XX/XX/XXXX. ” This was the only communication that I received from them regarding this matter. I didn’t get a letter nor was a message left on my phone. I didn’t get this email until today, XX/XX/XXXX.

However, they quickly sent this to collections with F.H. Cann. I received a letter dated XX/XX/XXXX which I didn’t received in the mail XX/XX/XXXX.

This could have been avoided if the U.S. Department of Education had given me reasonable time to contact them. Nor was I ever informed about the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I worked in public service for the County of XXXX for 31 years. I retired in XX/XX/XXXX. My husband had health complications which continues to today. In addition, the former servicer for my loan refused to send any documentation I asked for in writing. His response was ” Because we don’t send anything in writing. ” I am disputing the additional costs that have been tacked on to this loan in the amount of {$1900.00} for legal costs plus any part of this loan which should have been forgiven under the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I can resonably make $ XXXX payments for balance.
