Consumer Complaint: I have student loans through Navient. I finished school 12 years ago. It was 3 years ago that I realized I still owe more than I borrowed to begin with. I called them to address this. They ” re-allocated ” my payments. Another year goes by ( to income tax season when I get the form that shows how much I’ve paid for interest for the year ) and again, every single penny I paid went to interest. Zero to principal. I call them again and they tell me I should pay more than the minimum required. Okay, so I start paying more than the minimum required. Another year goes by, I get the form that tells how much interest I paid for the year. Again, every single penny went to interest. Zero to principal. I call them, they say, well you are paid ahead, by about a year. They tell me I can ” re-allocate ” the monthly payments, but they can’t put that money already paid ahead towards the principal. So I have almost a years payment ahead, but I still need to pay the minimum plus ( who knows how much ) extra to even put a penny towards the principal each month. I go online and ” re-allocate ” the future payments and i set up to make a big increase in my payments. They take one payment from me and then the next month I received a letter saying they have a new company taking over my loans. I now have a new company and lowered my payment back down to the ” minimum ” and have watched my principal go down each month, as it should have been for the last 12 years. I recently researched and found that a lawsuit has been filed against Navient due to cases similar to mine. Is there something that I can do to get my past loans reviewed? Are they reimbursing people? I can not find further information on the lawsuit, other than it was ” filed ”.
