Good morning, I was contacted regarding debt consolidation. The company that called me pitched a great plan that fit my budget.
Now a law firm is calling me saying they will be the primary contact and automatic payments will come out of my account monthly to go into a trusted account to start paying off my debt.
When I asked the question ” can I make early or additional payments”, they stated that I will have to contact them to that and I will only have access to see the money that’s going into the account this was quite disturbing to me.
My question is how do I know if a debt relief company is legit. The company name is Lakeview Law Group, PLLC 463 Seventh Ave, 21st Floor New York, NY
You are the purchaser of services. Only you can decide who you want to purchase services from. If you have any questions or feel like you are not getting answers, it is up to you to pursue those answers to your satisfaction. If you are not satisfied with the answers then it is up to you to decide how to proceed.
Is Lakeview Law Group Legit?
That is always a difficult question for me to answer since I have no idea what “legit” means to one person versus another.
I would recommend that anyone considering using such a company should read the following free guides.

All I can do is follow some of the steps from my guide above and share with you what I find.
According to the State of New York, the company name is actually LAKEVIEW LAW GROUP OF SONNY S. SHALOM PLLC.
At the bottom of the page for LakeviewLawGroup.com it does say, “Attorney Advertising: Lakeview Law Group of Sonny S. Shalom, PLLC, is a law firm. This website is an advertisement. It is not a lawyer referral service or prepaid legal services plan. Each of the lawyers on this site are either Managers, Members, Partners, Limited Partners or staff attorneys. All photos are of models and do not depict clients. An attorney responsible for the content of this Site is Sonny S. Shalom licensed in New York State with offices at 463 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10018, 888-525-3477.”
If you are not a New York resident or Sonny Shalom is not registered to practice law in your state, he may not be able to represent you as an attorney.
However, the website says “Lakeview Law Group, PLLC, is a law firm located in New York City. The firm is registered with the New York State Bar and maintains relationships with affiliated lawyers throughout the United States. Accordingly, Lakeview is able to work with consumers all over the United States and have a lawyer licensed in their home state work with them. The principals at Lakeview have been practicing law and helping their clients since the early 2000’s.”
You should find out what lawyer is licensed in the state you live and have a discussion or meeting with them to make sure you are on the same page regarding the services they will provide you. They are the ones to provide you with legal services.
The company has a BBB rating.
It appears Lakeview Law Group of Sonny S. Shalom PLLC was registered in New York on April 5, 2018 and the domain name was registered on April 4, 2018 to:
Registrant Organization: New Horizon Visions
Registrant Street: PO Box 690
Registrant City: Rockville Centre
Registrant State/Province: NY
Registrant Postal Code: 11571
It then went protected so you can’t see who the current owner is.
The State of New York says New Horizon Visions was registered to do business in 1998.
According to Avvo, Attorney Shalom divides his practice 34% class action, 33% litigation, and 33% advertising issues. I have no idea how accurate that is.

The Most Important Document
You should already have the most important document in your relationship with Lakeview Law Group, the client agreement.
That document will spell out the services you purchased, fees, and who you are working with. I’d be most interested in how you got from some initial debt consolidation company to Lakeview Law Group and if that initial company is a party to your client agreement.
If you want to share your client agreement with me to take a look at you can upload it here.
My advice is for you to follow my guides to do your own research, read your client agreement to make sure what you purchase is what you were told, and ask the company all the questions you might have in order to feel comfortable you made the right decision.
