Ohio AG Files Against California Debt Relief Companies Who Did Not Give Refunds

On March 8, 2012 the State of Ohio filed suit against Nelson Gamble & Associates, Jackson Hunter, Morris & Knight, and Jeremy Nelson.

The suit alleges that Nelson Gamble & Associates, a Colorado corporation, that said they were actually located at 18101 Von Karman Avenue, 3rd Floor, Irvine, California 92612. and Jackson Hunter Morris & Knight, a Nevada company, was located at 620 Newport Center Drive, 11th Floor, Newport Beach, California 92660.

The companies were not registered with the California Secretary of State to do business in that state. Nor were they registered with the State of Ohio. (Ed: I keep harping about being registered in the states you do business in and this is exactly why.)

The Defendant Jackson Hunter and Nelson Gamble & Associates both advertised debt settlement services through the websites at and nelson

It is alleged the companies entered into agreements with consumers over the telephone and did not provide consumers with written agreements. “Defendants represented themselves as law firms, although Defendants’ customers never had any correspondence, communications, or other dealings with any lawyers associated with Defendants.

Defendants, by misrepresenting that they were a law firm, induced consumers to trust them by creating the impression that consumers were getting professional services associated with legal counsel.

Defendants represented that they had an affiliation with lawyers that they did not have. – Source

Consumers paid a $199 initial fee before receiving debt settlement services.

And How Many Times Do We Say Refunds are Important?

“Consumers who did not receive the service of having their debts settled requested refunds of the monies they had paid to Defendant.

Defendant failed to make full refunds of monies paid for undelivered services, despite requests from consumers to either deliver the services or make full refunds.”

I still don’t understand why these companies haven’t figured out that it is usually much less expensive to offer a refund than it is to not. I seriously doubt they will ever get it.
