Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX, my grandmother and co-signer of my Navient loan passed away. Throughout the process of closing the estate, the lawyers we hired to complete the process never once mentioned or brought up the fact that, under the policies of Navient and the loan, they would call the loan in default and due in full. Sometime in XX/XX/XXXX, I received calls and letters from XXXX XXXX ( their deceased collection agency. ) During this time, which did n’t make any sense, Navient finally contacted me, in which I was at work and unable to field the phone call. I, over the course of the next few weeks, attempted to contact the representative who was ‘in charge ‘ of my account. On a number of occasions, I tried to just speak with anyone but no one could help, as I was told I had to speak with my ‘case manager. ‘ Finally, after speaking with the ‘manager ‘ of my case, she informed me that I had 3 choices. 1 ) Pay the account off in full. 2 ) Find another co-signer ( something I ‘m not willing to do, considering this possible outcome. ) 3 ) Find another company to lend me the money to pay it off. In my opinion, this can perceived as ‘predatory ‘ collection practices. I ‘m a customer of Navients, whom pays their bill every month. Admittedly, I had some repayment options early on, but I ‘ve corrected those issues and now how a steady flow of income and have made payments every month since XX/XX/XXXX, which they ‘re unwilling to consider. After pleading with Navient to release the loan to me, without a co-signer, I was unsuccessful. I ‘ve been ‘cornered ‘ into a lose-lose scenario, which to me, does n’t have a benefit to Navient, other than collecting the full-balance ( losing all of the potential interest ) or forcing another co-signer, and me, in to this very precarious situation. In addition, their essentially holding my grandmothers estate ransom, until a resolution that best works for them has been completed.
