I’m Being Threatened With a Judgment Over 30-Year-Old Health Club Account

Dear Steve,

I think I signed up for Bally (I don’t even remember) in the early 90s and received a phone call today 6/23/2020 stating they are hitting me with a judgment on my credit. How can they do that with the debt being so old? Not even to mention I can not even remember if or when I signed a contract.

Answer:

Dear Rebekah,

It sure sounds like a bluff or a bad debt buyer hoping you won’t defend yourself.

I bet they are trying to scare you into paying something.

I’d politely tell them to go pound sand but if they were to sue you it sure sounds like a suit you could get tossed out since the debt os so old.

The premise they are trying to collect on a debt decades-old for a health club just smells of scam.
