A New Jersey loansharking operation that lent money to struggling restaurants in Essex, Morris and Passaic counties began taking patrons’ credit card information when the restaurants couldn’t make loan repayments, investigators said today in announcing a sweep of arrests.
At least two restaurants have been named in the sweep as Italianissmo Restaurant in Caldwell and the Baloco Restaurant in Clifton, according to a release issued by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Additional details were expected at an afternoon press conference. Source
