Hello Tim,

Yes sometimes Credit Unions can be difficult, sometimes they are just fine. More importantly trying to settle the debt at this moment, might not be the best move. What is the current status of your employment? Are you making payments on the credit card? Do you have any funds available to offer a settlement on either of these accounts at this time?

Please post your answers in the comments below.

In this situation, if we determine that it does make sense to try and settle the debt (assuming you have the funds to do so), rather than looking for a debt settlement program, it would be better for you to try and negotiate something directly with the creditor first. If it doesn’t work out then you can always hire someone if you feel the need, but it wouldn’t hurt to see if they are open to something first and save yourself some fees.

If you would like to set up a phone consultation with me, I can review your overall situation and let you know if you should even try to settle the debt right now. You might not be in a position to do so. If you are not, I will tell you what you are going to need to do and what options you have available based on your circumstances.
