Dear Donna,
Do You Have a Question You'd Like Help With? Contact Debt Coach Damon Day. Click here to reach Damon.
I’m afraid there is some missing information that is critical.
Do you know who your late husband sold the car to?
Do you know if he turned the tags in or informed the motor vehicle department he no longer owned the car?
I would be you don’t have this information at hand and if not, you should contact a local attorney that is licensed in your state for help in getting this properly sorted out.
If the car was registered in his name alone, it is doubtful that either you own the debt (unless you live in a community property state and there is some special allowance for this) or that anything would be seized to repay the debt.
