Direct Buy – Consumer Complaint – 6-18-2012

Consumer Statement:

We joined Direct Buy here in Chattanooga Tn almost 2 years ago. We were pressured into buying the membership by telling us we had to join at our visit then rather than going home to review. We were advised of what the writing meant on the contract at the same time we were reading it. Our understanding from the salesperson ‘reinterating’ what the contract read is that all we have to do is find the item we want or call or come by the local office & pick out the item & they would do the research. He guaranteed us we would see savings right away upon our purchased. When we did find something, the store had us going back/forth getting info. from the place we found the item. Shortly after that the store in Chattanooga closed. This was convenient for us because they had items in that store we could buy right then. We were never informed the store was closing. We went there 1 day & it was closed. That was the main reason why we joined…for the savings & the local store. This has been frustrating to us & now we are sitting her paying a $160 monthly fee on a balance of $2700. We are struggling. DirectBuy conned us into this ‘deal’ and they had no intentions of honoring any savings. We were advised we would get the best quality of merchandise at a huge savings but we have only gotten conned.

Consumer Action Taken:

We called all around to the local store trying to contact someone regarding our contract. No answers. I finally went on line & found a number for the financing place called Universal. I explained that we cannot afford to continue to pay $160 for nothing. We are struggling. Their response to us is that we need to call the local DirectBuy office & was given a phone number. When I called that number, a man answered & advised he sold the company & he would not be able to help me. We don’t know what to do. I know if we stop paying, we will rec’d threatening phone calls at home & on our jobs.

  1. I too was scammed into the whole DB Chattanooga racket. Not only can i not get “direct”answers but they keep teling me to goto nearest stores…which are almost 2 & half hours away!!! I cant order offline because you cant order large items like fridge, stoves, etc to furnish a new home. They have deceitfully hurt my buying for the home bci now have to pay for something i never got to use!!!! All i get is run around and “Direct BULLCRAP”!!!!!
