“Dear Steve,
I over extended myself.
My consumer debt may be due to an addiction to watching prono films. What can I do about that?”
This is not the first or even the hundredth time people have asked me something similar involving all sorts of fetishes, pornography, sexual interests, etc.
First let’s start with the understanding that the debt is the symptom and not the real problem. The real issue here is whatever addiction you have that is driving your spending.
Without addressing that addiction, be it gambling, drugs, pornography, or even food, we will never fix the debt problem. There are even people that are “powerlessly” drawn to erotic financial domination.
If we look at this from the sky what we actually have in this situation is an attraction to adult films that is driven by a chronic mental desire or brain chemistry situation that leaves you unable to stop what you are doing even though you know it is driving you to financial ruin.
I completely understand that you want to deal with the debt first because that is no a negative factor that is interrupting you from focusing on your desire. But you need to trust me on this, it’s not the problem.
Let’s focus on changing this situation for the better. I would suggest that you find a local addiction counselor and make an appointment with them to discuss a path of treatment to deal with the addiction first. Once you feel you are on the road to recovery for that, then let’s deal with the debt.
There are also some groups out there that you can turn to for help. You might want to checkout Sex Addicts Anonymous, Sexaholics Anonymous, Sexual Compulsives Anonymous or Porn Addicts Anonymous.
Please post your responses and follow-up messages to me on this in the comments section below.
