“Dear Steve,
I fell for subscribing to Zoosk, despite what I felt were unusually high charges. One day later, after being sent some “Profiles,” I decided to cancel. They will let you cancel and not get their emails and FB messages, but you are bound to pay the entire amount. In this case about $99.00.
Is Isn’t there a three-day “cooling off period” for such internet dating sites? I would certainly like to know; and find out how I can get these charges OFF my credit card. Any suggestions? Is there a cooling Is there a way I can get these charges OFF my credit card, short of cancelling my credit card?
Bill”
Dear Bill,
For those not familiar with Zoosk it is an online dating website. – Source
According to the Zoosk terms of use agreement their cancellation policy is:
Cancellation of Subscriptions. TO CHANGE OR CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION AT ANY TIME, OTHER THAN PURSUANT TO SECTION 21, GO TO THE “SETTINGS” PAGE OF YOUR ACCOUNT, CLICK ON ” SUBSCRIPTION” AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. IF YOU CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION, OTHER THAN PURSUANT TO SECTION 21, YOUR SUBSCRIPTION BENEFITS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE END OF YOUR THEN CURRENT SUBSCRIPTION TERM, BUT YOUR SUBSCRIPTION WILL NOT BE RENEWED AFTER THAT TERM EXPIRES. YOU WILL NOT BE ENTITLED TO A PRORATED REFUND OF ANY PORTION OF THE SUBSCRIPTION FEES PAID FOR THE THEN CURRENT SUBSCRIPTION TERM, EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SECTION 21 OF THIS AGREEMENT OR AS REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LAW.
They also state the only places people have a right to a cooling off period are Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. – Source
Based on where your email came from it does not look as if you live in one of those states above. You are not stating the charge was made fraudulently, but that you changed your mind after enrolling.
It will probably be difficult then to avoid paying for that charge.
Be sure you have cancelled the service according to their directions so that it does not automatically renew.
If your Subscription is set to automatically renew, and you would prefer to not renew, follow these instructions:
- Log in to Zoosk.com from a laptop, desktop, or tablet computer
- Click on your user name menu at the top of the page and select ‘Personals Settings’
- Click on ‘Subscription’, found on the left side of the page
- Click on ‘Cancel My Subscription’
- To proceed with the cancellation click ‘No, please cancel my Subscription’
- Provide an answer to one of the survey questions to successfully complete the cancellation
- After canceling a Subscription that was set to renew, you will have Subscriber benefits until the end of your billing cycle.
Please post your responses and follow-up messages to me on this in the comments section below.

Hello, i was subscribed to an online dating site Zoosk. I was under a monthly plan and ended up cancelling in June because the site wasnt for me. It is November and a charge was made automatically without my consent. Why did this happen? I thought canceling and deactivating account would stop this?
Surprise. Looks like you will have to chase them down and hope to get some exceptional customer service.
I signed up fro 6 months to try it, I was under the impression that I was paying for the usage of all the website’s future and then after getting charged they came up with these other charges “gold coins”??? I do not like being scammed and that is what I feel they did. I never used the profile not once after paying but it seems like they keep the money no matter what. Fraudulent company.

Dear Steve, I am desperately! I am Brazilian and leave in Brazil. I have signed up for this website which was all wrote in Portuguese. They were supposed to charge me R$45,99 (local currency which is Real) and instead the charge it was on US dollar!! This amount in US dollar is about 3TIMES MORE in Brazilian currency.
Please, can you help giving me some tips to how cancelled it and get the refund of US$45,99?
Thank you very much!
Priscilla
Contact your bank or credit card company and ask for assistance to deal with the transactions.
U have to get a new Credit Card , so they cant charge u ! Bull crap it is ! Stupid Zoosk !:)
The same happened to me …I called my bank and they gave me their phone number ..I paid $34.99 and $9.99 …which is $44.94 totaI tried it for 1 month ..I wasn’t Happy with this Zoosk …A bunch of liars and pics are old …So she said she could refund me back 1/2 of what I paid …which came to $22.46 ….Once u get into their clutches its hard to get out ! NOT HAPPY about this All ….I wish u all luck ..I guess 1/2 is better than nothing …So I have learned a lesson here …Don’t get on ANY dating site …Its still better the Old School way …By meeting them in ur Supermarket …Beach …or threw other friends , at least u know what ur getting 🙂 So my advice is Not to waste ur time and Money on these Idiot dating Sites ! Save ur $$$$$$
Hey Steve! Recently I’ve had a similar problem, although, I only signed up for a one off, one month subscription. From my understanding, it was only for one month and not to be renewed after that. They have just charged me for another months worth of subscription and I would like to get a refund for it.
Thanks
Deano
