Consumer Statement:
We went to Cockburn & Associate, in April of 2012, because they honestly look legit in helping us to get our debts resolved. They told us to pay them $300.00 per month and that as they negotiated with our debtors they would pay them off one by one as the money built up in our account. They told us to not answer the creditor’s calls that they would be in contact with them, themselves and that they calls would stop. They did not stop. The debtors told us that no one from any law firm had been in contact with them. We started getting suspicious and starting calling Cockburn regularly, asking them what progress had been made, asking for a detailed statement as to where our money was going. Every time we called, someone new was on our case. They’d review it and call us back. They never did. We finally put a stop payment on their automatic withdrawals from our bank account in August 2013. We recently got in touch with the BBB in regards to Cockburn & Associate and Cockburn told them that they were in touch with us monthly. THAT was a total lie. Not only that, but I’ve recently found out that they are NOT BBB accredited. We should have researched them before signing with them but I suppose we are just too trusting.
Consumer Action Taken:
During our time with them, we repeatedly asked for statements showing where our money was going, who had they paid off, why were we still getting creditor calls. We never got a straight answer about where our money was going and they just kept repeating to not talk to the companies that we owed money to. We’ve been in touch with the BBB to see if they could push them into giving our money back but they hold no clout over Cockburn & Associate since C&A are not BBB accredited.

I am so glad I found this site, I was getting ready to let Cockburn and Associates help me. They told me if I could make $200.00 a month payments they could make it so I would only have to pay $6000.00 back when I actually owe $20,000.00. I inquired at my bank as this seemed too good to be true and they told me they never heard tell of such a thing, I looked in to it and could find nothing good about them.
The thing that bothers me most is that I was on a Canadian Government web site getting tax information when the add popped up and it actually looked like it was something the Government was doing, no where did it say anything about Cockburn and Associates. You would think are government would be more careful with their web sites, and who is pretending to be working for them.
