Question:
Dear Steve,
My wife and I basically have 5 student loans in various stages of being paid off. We are in a situation where we have to file a chapter 7. Our bankruptcy attorney is not very cooperative about adding the student loans. Who can we turn to to get the job done?
Robert

Answer:
Dear Robert,
Here is my list of student loan attorneys who have expertise in the area.
There is so much that goes into making a determination of dealing with student loans in bankruptcy that you need to find someone you can talk to who knows about the issues.
Most importantly, you need to determine if your loans are federal or private, if the school you went to was FAFSA approved when you attended, and what the loans were used for.
If there are not attorneys on my list who are in the state you live in, start calling bankruptcy attorneys till you find one who has experience in dealing with student loans in bankruptcy and has filed student loan Adversary Proceedings to obtain a discharge, if eligible.
Thanks for pointing out that private and federal loans will be factors to consider when it comes to filing for bankruptcy. A friend of my mom is considering to file for one soon due to some debts she has incurred to pay for hospital bills. In a few more months, she might not be able to stay afloat with the amount that she owes.
