Consumer Statement:
I signed a contract with Boulder Legal Group to get out of about $26,000 of credit card debt. They arranged a draw of about $559/mo for 32 months and I agreed to pay approximately $18,000 over that time.
Towards the end of the arrangement I wanted to speed up the process, so I doubled my contribution for four months and was assured I would “graduate” early.
Boulder Legal then stopped communicating with me about the status of my accounts. When I called I was only able to speak with a customer service rep who did not have access to all of the information to help me or give me answers.
I was promised callbacks from a supervisor numerous times, and those calls never came. By September of 2018 I had paid almost $20,000 to Boulder Legal ($2000+ above the original amount) and my accounts were still not all settled.
Consumer Action Taken:
I called 11/29 and after an hour on hold was able to speak with Desiree, a supposed supervisor. She agreed with the amounts paid and could not explain why I had paid $2000 extra without my accounts being settled.
The major issue was that the two largest accounts had not even been touched. Desiree told me I had less than $600 left in my reserve account (this was after other accounts had been settled and BLG had taken fee after fee for their services).
So I paid $20,000 after being told I only needed to pay $18,000 and in the end, the two biggest accounts had not been settled.
I agreed with Desiree that I would handle the last two accounts on my own. She would “graduate” me from the program and send me a check for the remainder of funds. This was on 11/28.
On 12/6, I received another call from BLG stating that an account I was previously told was settled now required a payment of $526 TODAY to avoid being sent into default.
They left voicemails and now callbacks to customer service reps yield zero answers. Again, this is after I was told I had about $572 left in my reserve account… what has happened to that money? The check Desiree promised hasn’t appeared, but it’s only been a week so I wasn’t worried until today.
BLG took $20,000 from me and paid about $15,000 total in settlements. They failed to settle my two largest accounts at ALL and took over $5,000 in fees for their “services.”
