Question:
Dear Steve,
I am working at getting out of credit card debt.
I would like to find out how many payments I have left. I cannot get into my account. All my information was on my I_Pad which was destroyed in an accident. I had nothing written down. Lost everything. I hope you can help.
Thank you,
Joan
Answer:
Dear Joan,
What the hell.
Since I have no accounts with anyone or provide services to consumers you’ve got the wrong guy. Which alarms me because you are obviously involved with someone dealing with your debt but you are not sure who you have trusted your financial future with.

I’m sorry you lost your iPad but I’m honestly more sorry you don’t have a good overwatch on whoever you hired to deal with your debt, credit, or whatever.
You need to take ownership, responsibility, and watch over whoever you are working with.
For all I know you are inquiring about the number of payments left on some extension of credit. That’s just as bad.
Your inquiry to me tells me that you may have a general lack of understanding or a watch over your financial affairs. That’s bad.
I have a deep compassion in my heart for people who are struggling but this is your one warning from me to get your shit together and keep track of who you either owe or have hired to help you deal with your debt.
Now go hunt them down and stay on top of them. Don’t abdicate your financial health to someone you are not on top of. That will kill your finances.
I think you’ve missed the point of her note or jumped to a conclusion (unless you’ve edited her note to eliminate some things she’s said that would lead you to respond as you did). Disappointing answer.
What point did I miss?
