Is Second Chance Advocate a Scam?

Question:

Dear Steve,

Payday loan relief Secondchanceadvocate.com.

They can erase my illegal loans, is what they told me. I have to pay $250 a month to them since I live in Texas, and I have a lot of loans that they told me are illegal.

Is this place a scam? Should I pay them?

Are they real?

Thank you, Steve.

Mary

Answer:

Dear Mary,

I went to the Second Chance Advocate website and took a look around.

The message they give on their website is confusing. At face value, they appear to be just another document preparation company. They say, “The services we provide are restricted by various state laws. We do not practice law nor do we give legal advice. We simply provide forms to accomplish tasks legally permitted based on individual state laws.”

The company website claims its mission is “Dedicated to improving the lives of people through support, compassion, and education.”

But then they say, “Second Chance Advocates offer a wide range of documents along with many different payment plans and options.”

They also say, “We are not lawyers, we are a group with network of attorneys that specialize in the laws and regulations and offer a wide range of documents along with many different payment plans and options.”

Something does not add up here. Why would they say they accept payments if they are a document preparation company?

Getting a document and filling it in is not expensive. Sites like RocketLawyer.com sell legal documents at $39.99 for non-members or free for members that pay some sort of membership fee. They also offer attorney consultations and other similar services.

So what exactly is Second Chance Advocate selling you. For $250/month, it sounds more like a debt relief or settlement service. It clearly does not sound like a document preparation service.

Are They a Scam?

I’m not a fan of the word scam since it can mean many different things to different people. Instead, I provide the free guides below to help people research a company and come to their own conclusion.

You said you live in Texas, so I went to see if Second Chance Advocate is registered to do business in Texas.

It does not appear any company named Second Chance Advocate is registered in Texas.

The company says they are located at 102 NE 2nd Street, Suite #237, Boca Raton, FL 33432.

There is a chance that the address is actually a virtual mailbox or maildrop.

Now, this is very strange. The company says they are located in Florida, so I wanted to check to see if they are registered to do business there. It’s where they say they are located.

It looks like the company tried to register to do business in Florida a week ago, but their filing was rejected. I have never seen that before.

Is second chance advocate a scam?

It does not appear they are even registered to do business in Florida.

How well will they fill out your form if they can’t even get themselves registered to do business in Florida and Texas?

After looking at the results of my research above, what conclusion do you come to?

Waited until I had made all my payments to them for the program’s Service; except the last payment due. They informed me that they didn’t help with one of the loan co. Which I had a loan with. I have a court date to be SUED. They said that I still owe them that Last payment😡.

      • All phone calls and letters has stopped from my lenders . I do pay second chance a small fee of 208 monthly for services . On the surface I have nothing to complain about .

  3. Yes they are a scam. I contacted them they told me what they were going to do after I put a stop payment on the payday loan companies at my bank and then replied to them. Only then were they supposed to take money out of my checking account. In the end I decided not to go that route and never contacted them and they took money out of my account anyways. When I called them to let them know about wrongly taking money out of my checking account and wanting a refund the woman I spoke to became very hard to understand, said she would put my account on suspension and asked if I had any other questions. I told her I wanted a refund and she was hard to understand again and my money has not been refunded yet. I have put a video on YouTube and on Facebook warning my friends and followers not the trust this company. Furthermore I logged a complaint against them but the better Business bureau.

  4. I used 2nd chance and all but 1 loan company has been taken care of. Now after reading all this I’m wondering what 2nd chance actually did on my behalf. I paid them a lot of money over 6 months and I’m now paying 39.99 a month for help still. What do I do now especially with the payday loan company that’s still harassing me?

    • Only you can decide what “scam” means to you. It’s different for each person. This is why I encourage people to do their own homework. Use the links in my post.

If you rely on someone else to tell you what to do, you are more likely to not get the result you want or want to avoid.

Let me know what you decide?

  5. I signed up with Second Chance their relief program definitely has pros and cons. I had 4 of 5 loans completely dismissed. Opp Loan is still breathing down my neck. Its true you can do some of the work yourself but all the paper work and correspondence between the different loans I had I rather pay to get it done, I paid $148 and 4 more payments of $124. Completed the program in Augustt. Its not for everyone but it worked for me. There’s literally no other way out with the high interest loans I had

  6. Glad I read all the answers because I was with second chance and was uncomfortable after I couldn’t see what they were doing , paid in a lot of money for three months which could have went toward my creditors, lesson learned hard and wasted money. I stop payments and will deal with illegal company’s.

        • You should file a complaint with the Attorney General in your state regarding the tribal loan. It might not even be collectible, to begin with. Why not bankruptcy? It is the fastest and least expensive way to put unmanageable debt behind you.
