I’m Living on Social Security and Being Threatened with Arrest for a Debt. – Jeanne

I am on social security and cannot pay certain debts.

I owe some money in utah and am being harassed by a collection agency. they say they will get a judgment against me and then have me arrested. i’m pretty sure this is a lie. (the arrest part) right?

Dear Jeanne,

I am assuming you don’t have much in the way of cash or assets they can go after so even if they sued you, which they have a legal right to do, there would not be much for you to lose.

Threatening you with arrest for you debt is not permissible. You might want to contact attorney James Taylor in Salt Lake City to put a stop to this and go after that collector for you. He can be reached at 801-542-9003.

I just spoke to him and he sounds like a nice guy. Not the scary type of lawyer some people are intimidated by.
