“Dear Steve,
I am two months late on my car payment, and I can’t afford to pay it. I have done refinanced the car last year so they won’t be able to do it again. I just deferred two payments back about 3 months ago, so trying to defer a payment is out of the question. I don’t know what else I can do.
How can I get my payments up to date without them taking the car?
Linda”
Dear Linda,
It sounds like you just can’t afford the car.
The only way to get caught up is either with a mutual agreement with the lender, talk to the lender, or under a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. But in a bankruptcy you’d have to make at least your regular car payment plus about 30% more to get the loan caught up.
Whatever you do, don’t fall for any of these auto loan modification ads you might see. They are mostly lies.

Mike,
Interesting. I just posted an article on this after looking into it from your comment. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
My vote, stay away. See Auto Payment Assistance, Variety Investment Corporation. What is It?
I do not know a thing about this company ( autopaymentassistance.com ), but that last post reminds of a book I read some years ago, By Harvey McKay called “BEWARE THE NAKED MAN WHO OFFERS YOU THE SHIRT OFF HIS BACK”.
