I Need Tips on Who to Hire to Negotiate a Debt Settlement. – M

Background: high debt. unemployed for a year and then underemployed for 2 yrs. I was able to settle 2 cc’s and now I have 2 left. Both have been turned over to Law Firm collectors in my state (Colorado.) One is very aggressive, Machol & Johannes and basically offered me 0% discount. ugh. The other Farrell & SEldin served me a Summons and is pursuing a judgment. Ugh. I was going to file Bankruptycy, but didn’t even have the $. It costs like $1500-3500! CRAZY. Attorneys charge like $250/hr so I don’t want to hire one to settle. I’m only able to settle now due to the grace and goodness of my parents who I finally asked for help. Need advice on negotiating or who to hire. THANK YOU.

i have investigated both firms you have dealt with. they are both being looked at by the states attorney general. one so called server is using a jacket that purports to be from the sherriff. i know our sherrif personally he is very mad and will arrest this person if he can catch him. the two so called summons i got were not filed with the court and do not follow civil procedure. these debts were written off and i filed 1099s I wish my business hadn’t closed or i had to go to credit counseling but the big banks drove us to this. i to have tried to get a job for 8 years in my field and i work part time for 7.82 an hour. my husband just lost his job again for the second time in two years. we are barely holding on. i would love to pay but not the usures charges they want from criminals who break the law to collect.
