“Dear Steve,
I have a lot of unsecured credit card debt. We are considering bankruptcy. My job requires me to travel a lot and I have a Corporate AMEX card.
If we file for bankruptcy, will the Corporate AMEX get rolled into that? Will I then need to get a new Corp. Amex and would I be approved? I have no other amex cards other than this one for work. I wouldn’t be able to do my job without the card.
Thanks

Dear JoJo,
It all depends if you personally signed for the card. If so, then yes, it would need to be listed in your bankruptcy.
However, if this is a card that is issued by your employer and you did not personally sign for it then it would not need to be listed in your bankruptcy.
You can click here to find a local bankruptcy attorney and discuss all the specifics with them.

For “JOJO” I was in a similar situation several years ago. I had to list ALL cards in my bankruptcy. After a short period of not being able to take care of the “travel bills” I had no choice but to let my boss know about the bankruptcy. I found that the company could guarantee the card. they did and I was able to get another card. After about a year or two of good payments my limits that had been placed on the card were removed anad now I have no problem traveling for work. It may not work that way for you but you might talk to them. Best of luck to you. Also, after my bankruptcy I got “gazillions” of offers for cards (I didn’t get any; if I can’t do it with the corporate card or my debit visa..I don’t need it!)..but I did take advantage of getting the best mortgage rate I ever had!! (after 18 months of the filing). Good luck.
