My Work Has Been Cut in Half and My Health Makes it Tough to Work More to Repay My Debt. – Kimberly

“Dear Steve,

I have unsecured credit card debt. Have been with a few different debt settlement companies who have gone bankrupt.

Still am trying to pay off these bills. Is there a statue of limitation on collecting money owed on these? And what can they do to you? Since the economy has crashed my work has been cut in half and I am now having some health problems that are preventing me from working as much as I would like to.

I can not do anything that would involve my husbands credit, his is excellent. I am really struggling with this as I have tried to do the correcr thing by paying all these people and I see others filing chapter 13 for the 2nd and 3rd time and being cleared. I am really at the end here what is your advice? Thanks so much.

What to do about paying off unsecured credit cards I can not afford to pay now. and is there a statue of limitations in the state of Florida?

Kimberly”

Dear Kimberly,

There is nothing that prevents you from filing bankruptcy individually to clear off the debt you can’t repay.

I would suggest you click here to find a local bankruptcy attorney and meet with them for free. They will also be able to specifically answer your questions about your particular debt and the statute of limitations.

Keep in mind that the statute of limitations only limits the ability to be sued, and has no bearing on how long the debt can be attempted to be collected on.

I think your statements about having your employment cut in half and the health condition make me think dealing with the debt in a quick manner at this point is a much more logical approach.

Please post your responses and follow-up messages to me on this in the comments section below.
